The Erotic Art – Volumes 1 and 2 is an extensive visual survey exploring erotic themes and imagery throughout the history of fine art.

Compiled by Oliver and Liam Carter , the collection grew from the First International Exhibition of Erotic Art held in Lund, Sweden, and Aarhus, Denmark, in 1968. The exhibition brought together more than a thousand examples of erotic pictures and statuary from different periods and cultures.

Across its two volumes, the book examines Western art, primitive and ethnographic art, Indian art, Chinese art, and Japanese art, combining historical discussion with an extensive visual archive. The second volume’s contents specifically include Western, Primitive, India, China, and Japan sections.

The collection features 81 color plates and 781 black-and-white plates, making it particularly valuable for readers interested in art history, cultural studies, historical illustration, and the representation of sexuality in visual culture.
