Early Life 📖

Osho’s real name was Chandra Mohan Jain and he was born in Kuchwada, India on December 11, 1931. From birth, Chandra was highly curious about the world, about truth and about religious systems, and he began questioning everything to do with religion and society from a very young age. When he reached university age he studied philosophy, which then became a career when he turned into a teacher/professor. In this period Osho travelled extensively throughout India in speeches and public debates on spirituality and the mind.

Osho gained popularity in the late 60s and 70s as a spiritual master who gave lectures on meditation and consciousness. Osho offered a revolutionary departure from most spiritual teachers of his time by inviting his followers to experience life to its fullest with full consciousness rather than renouncing all worldly pleasures.

Osho developed novel meditation techniques such as Dynamic Meditation, which included a combination of breathing, movement, dance, and silence. Osho developed active meditation techniques because he felt that contemporary people suffered from minds full of stress and tension.
